BEETLEJUICE

True fans buy three Beetlejuice posters. Made for the 30th anniversary screening at the Texas Theatre it captures the iconic model town that bookends the film. Capturing the sense of scale, Wynona Ridder’s face looks down at our recently deceased protagonists about to unearth Beetlejuice.

The black and white works perfectly with the look of this film. I have a background in traditional printmaking and this poster reminds me of that look. In particular wood cuts, where you have to carve out the whites from a solid block, as opposed to drawing on paper, where you start with white paper and add the dark pencil. The sandworms in the corner against black is where I can feel it most. Originally there was a fully drawn tree there, but the composition felt off and I removed it in favor of big Sandworms.
