THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH

David Bowie stars in this strange and wonderful film. You get to see Bowie up close and young, acting like himself for the most part it seems. At the heart of the film it’s a 70’s is the identity of self and feelings of alienation. Visually it's mesmerizing as we see the surreal scifi moments of Bowie’s alien family and inner life. I grabbed a few key elements to piece together the poster. Bowie’s entrance as a falling star, a scene of a wall of TV flickering humanity’s contradictions and accomplishments. Bowie’s alien family looking back at him. And the small town much of the film is set in. The polaroid like film, introduced in a rompus sex scene with Rip Torn… yeah couldn’t ignore that. And the big boat of a Lincoln that was shot low and close with a wide lens making it feel like a spaceship. I absolutely loved drawing young Bowie for this poster. The film isn’t a master piece but it’s certainly one of a kind, just like this poster.
